Owl

Welcome to Year 2 and Owl Class!

Welcome to Owl class!

How quickly time flies when we're having fun!  The children have done some amazing learning this half-term, producing some great pieces of work.  We hope you enjoyed seeing some of their artwork on the classroom windows.  A big well done to each one of you for working your socks off all term!

After half-term, we will be starting our new' Fire, Fire!' where the children will learn about the Great Fire of London.  Our topic will have focus, where we will use a range of sources to delve deep into the facts about this historic event.  The children will also have the opportunity to form their own opinion on why the fire burnt so quickly.

Our key texts in English will look at two different fictional characters, and their experiences of the Great Fire of London.  The children will look at the features of diary writing, writing their own diary entry about the events of our in school 'Great Fire of Tweseldown'.  They will then write a narrative describing the events from the perspective of an eyewitness.

In Maths we will be having a big focus on addition and subtraction.  First we will learn about mental strategies for both calculations, then we will move onto more formal written methods.  The children will learn how to create 'jumps' on a number line; forwards for addition and backwards for subtraction.  Finally, the children will apply their knowledge to problem-solving.

The adults in Owl class believe that communication is the key typo success.  If you have any worries or information that you would like to share with us, then please do on of the following:

  • speak to one of us at the classroom door
  • email or phone the school office
  • write us a message in your child's reading diary (please ask your child to hand this directly to an adult to ensure the message does not get missed)

We hope you have a lovely half-term break and cannot wait to get stuck into some more fun learning with our brand-new topic!
