Hedgehog Class

Welcome to Hedgehog Class

Miss Petty and Miss Pal hope you enjoy learning all about what we have been getting up to in Hedgehog Class.

In Hedgehog Class we promise to:

  • Have kind hands, feet and mouths
  • Look after our toys
  • Be kind and look after our friends
  • Tidy up
  • Sit beautifully
  • Walk inside
  • Put our hands up
We have had a fantastic first half of our spring term where we started our topic of Amazing Animals and Beautiful Beasts by reading Rumble in the Jungle.  We had lots of fun finding out about jungle animals, acting like the animals and using instruments to create the noises they make.  Next we read Farmer Duck and made story predictions and wrote speech bubbles of what the animals might say to him.
Our curriculum week this half term was Technology where we had a science, DT and Computing focus!  We were sent a letter from the witch from the book Room on the Broom.  Our challenge was to make the witch a new vehicle.  We designed and made our vehicles in pairs using the interactive whiteboard, ipads and on big pieces of sugar paper.  To finish the week we went on a museum walk around the school to see all the other vehicles.
In maths we have been learning about numbers 11-16 focusing on how we make this number e.g. 10+1=11.  We have also been working on addition and subtraction and on writing number sentences.  We have also been exploring one more and one less.  We have begun to look at doubling and have enjoyed playing dominoes to help us with our learning.
In phonics we have completed Phase 4 where we have been learning to read and write polysyllabic words, cvc (cat) and ccvc (shop, stop) words.  We have also been doing lots of fun activities which have involved us using our phase 2 and 3 sounds.
Next half term we are looking forward to our Superhero topic.
Half a lovely half term and come back soon to see what we get up to next half term!
