Hedgehog Class

Welcome to Hedgehog Class!

In Hedgehog class we promise to:

  • Have kind hands, feet and mouths
  • Look after our toys
  • Be kind and look after our friends
  • Tidy up
  • Sit beautifully
  • Walk inside
  • Put our hands up

We have really enjoyed getting to know each other during our first term together. You have made Miss Petty and Mrs Cousins very proud with how well you have settled!

We have been very busy Hedgehogs accessing lots of fun activities together across the seven areas of learning and development; Literacy, Maths, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Understanding the World, Expressive Arts and Design and Communication and Language.

We learnt about ourselves and our friends through our 'Marvellous Me' topic and we have learnt all about the Jolly Postman and his friends. We were very lucky and had a specail visit for a Postman who delivered some special letters to us! Mrs Tottem gave us the challenge to write a party invitation to our grown-ups to invite them to our Christmas Party. We wrote these invitations, went for a walk to post them and had a magical Christmas Party! Our grown ups had lots of fun joining in dancing and playing party games.

During our phonics sessions we have learnt lots of sounds. We are now learning two letters which make one sound, these are called digraphs, and three letters which make one sound, which are called trigraphs. Keep practising your sounds which are sent home at the end every week. We hope your enjoying making up words by putting teh sounds together e.g. c-a-t is cat.

In Maths we have practised counting forwards up to 10. We have focused on subitising and working out ways to make different numbers up to 10. Keep looking out for different numbers on your journeys to school!

This half term we will be learning about ‘amazing animals’ and creating our own ‘brilliant beasts’! We will be discovering some fascinating facts about animals and finding out where some animals live. We are looking forward to be 'going' on a trip and even having some visitors to help us learn all about animals and how to look after them.
