Tweseldown Infant School

Welcome to Deer Class!

This half term has flown by, and we have had so much fun in year 1 so far!  Well done to everyone for following our new school rules which help to keep us safe.  All children in Deer class have been trying really hard to keep a good level of hygiene, remembering to 'catch it, bin it, kill it'.  They have also become really good at washing their hands.

Here's a little reminder of the class charter which the children in Deer class chose themselves....

Remember to:

*respect others

*listen to others

*always be kind

*keep each other safe

*always try your best

All children signed to agree that they would follow these rules, and they have done such a wonderful job at following them carefully.  Keep it up Deer class!

Our theme in Year 1 for this half term is 'Toys@.  We will be reading the story @Lost in the Toy Museum@, helping the main character (Bunting) find his friends.  Along the way we will be adapting the story to create our very own versions.  Towards the end of the calendar year we will get into the festive spirit with 'Harvey Slumfenburger's Christmas Present'.  Throughout this writing project we will think of new modes of transport to help Father Christmas deliver the presents.

In Maths we will be using pictures and physical objects to help us gain a deeper understanding of addition and subtraction.  We will start by adding and subtracting 1 digit numbers e.g. 9-5 = 4, then move on to working with 2 digit numbers.  Throughout this topic we will be solving missing number problems and applying these skills to new reasoning problems, where the children will need to explain their understanding.

During our afternoon sessions we will be learning about a range of subjects such as art, history and science.  We will be designing and creating a toy box for Bunting and his friends and, as we get closer to Christmas, we will investigate seasonal changes outdoors.  In history we will compare modern and old toys, looking at how they have changed since our Grandparents were younger.

The adults in Deer class believe that communication is they key to success.  If you have any worries or information that you would like to share with us then please speak to one of us at the classroom door or drop us an email:

There is lots of fun and exciting learning in store for the upcoming half term, and we can't wait to get started again!
