Remote Working

At our school, we believe that the very best place for children to learn is in school, alongside their teachers and peers. However, where attendance is not possible, we are committed to ensuring that pupils can continue their education through high-quality remote learning provision. This approach is aligned with the Department for Education's guidance on remote education. 

When Remote Education Will Be Provided

Remote education may be provided when:

• Individual pupils are unable to attend school for a short period but are well enough to learn.
• School closure or restricted attendance is required due to exceptional circumstances.
• Guidance from local or national agencies requires pupils to learn from home.

Remote education is intended to support continuity of learning and is not viewed as an alternative to regular school attendance. 

Our Remote Learning Platform

We use Microsoft Teams as our online learning platform. Through Teams, pupils can:

• Access live teaching sessions.
• Receive learning resources and assignments.
• Submit completed work.
• Receive feedback from teachers.
• Communicate appropriately with staff as part of their learning.

Logins and guidance on accessing Teams are provided to all pupils and families when the need arises.

Live Teaching

Where remote education is required, teachers will provide a combination of:

• Live lessons through Microsoft Teams.
• Recorded explanations and demonstrations where appropriate.
• Independent learning activities.
• Reading, phonics and curriculum-based tasks.
• Feedback to support pupils' progress.

Our curriculum remains ambitious and closely reflects the learning taking place in school so that pupils can continue to make good progress. 

Expectations for Pupils

We ask pupils to:

• Attend all live sessions where possible.
• Complete and submit assigned work.
• Engage positively with learning activities.
• Follow our behaviour expectations and online safety rules.
• Ask for help if they are unsure about any aspect of their learning.

Expectations for Parents and Carers

Parents and carers can support their child by:

• Helping establish a suitable learning routine.
• Ensuring their child can access Microsoft Teams.
• Encouraging engagement with daily learning.
• Communicating with the school if support is required.
• Monitoring safe and appropriate use of technology.

Supporting Pupils with SEND 'Little Gems'

We are committed to ensuring that remote education is accessible to all pupils. Where appropriate, reasonable adjustments will be made for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This may include:

• Adapted learning activities.
• Additional adult support.
• Personalised resources.
• Regular communication with families.

Access to Technology

If a family experiences difficulties accessing remote learning due to a lack of devices or internet access, we encourage parents and carers to contact the school. We will work with families to identify appropriate support wherever possible. The Lions have supplied second hand laptops for support.

Safeguarding and Online Safety

Safeguarding remains our highest priority. All remote learning activities are delivered in accordance with our:

• Behaviour Policy
• Acceptable Use Agreements

Pupils are reminded regularly about staying safe online and using technology responsibly.
